I was reading this months SUCCESS magazine, and came across this amazing lady.

At 23, Jan Fields - joined McDonalds and her first day job was to make French Fries.  And today, 30 years later, she is the COO of the company.

How fascinating is this. How inspiring. This lady - a military wife with a child and no college degree, was actually on her way for an interview for a secretarial job. She stepped inside a McDonald for a beverage and saw a sign that would change her life for ever. The sign read “Hiring”.

The job which was started as a fry chef,  she worked her way up to be the first female chief operating officer of McDonal’s USA.  She over seas more than 800000 employees at more than 13,700 restaurants.

Here are a few advice from her we all can benefit from :

1) If you really focus on your existing job, and do it the best you can and do it better than anybody else, your next position will come a lot easier.

2) Never quit over one person or one thing.

3) Stay focussed on the job you have, not on all the peripheral things going on around you. I think it served me well.

4) Every win results from team effort.

5) I would tell everyone that I believe you can accomblish anything that you set your mind to do, but just do it a step at a time.

She says that,” people have to recognize that the road is long and far, and you’re not going to get there overight. The skills that you learn as your are going through at lower levels are what make you successful when you get to the top”.
