Recently I had a discussion with my mentor about my goals and plans for my future. I said to him I use many techniques to focus on my goals and complete the tasks. I told him how I found myself very hard to really focus and complete what I want.
He looked at my eyes and asked “Sijith - Do you really want it ?” For a moment, I was very quiet. I just didn’t know what to say. Then, after a long breadth I said. “Yes. I think I really want it.”.
The reply he gave really surprised me. He said ”Sijith - I think you don’t want it, and you are not telling truth“.
I was just silent and kept on looking at his eyes. Slowly like a great man of wisdom he continued -
“If you really want something, you will not sit unless you achieved it. You will not think about anything except to achieve what you really want. There wont be anything that can stop you from achieving what you want. You don’t need any time management technique, no motivation technique, nothing. You will just do it. This is because you really want it.”
“Many times you have lot of “wish list” - things you would say - it is good to have that, and I am OK If I don’t get it. Here you really don’t want it - they are just wishes. Many times wishes wont move you forward to your goals - because, you are not motivated enough to achieve it. You will not go for any goals unless you want it. Not just want it. You really want it ”
“Think about the top personalities who achieved great things in their life. Think about Bill gates who founded Microsoft. Or Steve Jobs who founded Apple. These people really wanted what they want. They had the great passion to do what they want. And they just did it, and in the way, they achieved great results, changed the way how people live and left a great a legacy behind”
“What you truly want will fill your life - your day, your night, your busy time, your free time - every single thought you have will be about what you ‘really’ want. If there is something you have that actually fills your mind day and night, then that is what you really want, and in the process you have found your life purpose.”
“Sijith - You too can achieve great things in your life and leave a wonderful legacy behind. To do so you need to ask this question “Do you really want it ? and the answer to this question will decide your future. ”
Looking deep into his eyes - I knew this was a life changing moment for me, and it was ..
Your friend always,
Sijith Salim
